Closer to My Miracle show opens

July 13 at Norfolk Arts Center

July 2017 --  Join Beverly Todd for the opeing reception of her show on Thursday, July 13, 5 to 7 pm, at the Norfolk Arts Center. The show runs through August 31.

Bev also will lead two TeamPaint Family and Friends workshops. This is two hours of hands-on group painting on a shared canvas that you take home. Many families have a special place where their art hangs as a beautiful symbol of creating something truly meaningful… together! Sign up today.

About the show: Closer to My Miracle, Beverly relates:

"I am inspired by the belief that each of us has a special gift or miracle inside, and the closer we get to realizing our miracle the more the Universe conspires to make it happen. There are several versions of this thought…

“And, when you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it,” writes Paul Coelho, in the Alchemist.

"Through art I share what it has taken me a lifetime to understand. Life is art. It moves us in the deepest and most unconscious way. What inspires me to create is using art as a translation in color, shape, form and story-telling. It is painting how life feels."

Sedona Art Prize

July 2017 -- Song, Itself was selected as a June 2017 finalist in the Sedona Art Prize International Artist Competition. Judge's comment: The mark making in this abstract is strong and rich. There is just enough revealed, just enough spoken. The lost and found marks and strong color, so well placed, create a lovely rhythm. This is a lovely abstract!

Beautiful Questions was selected as an April 2017 finalist in the Sedona Art Prize International Artist Competition. Judge's comment:  It's hard to find a unique, well executed abstract. This is one of them.

Unexpected Beginnings was selected as a March 2017 finalist in the Sedona Art Prize International Artist Competition.  Judge's comment: A real departure from reality shows in the way this piece is handled. The loose lush streaks and spatters along with various opaque glazes give way to a non-objective contemporary style that is most popular today. The cubes of color seem to disappear and reappear unexpectedly in a linear fashion.

Twelve finalists will compete in the year-end competition for the $5,000 first place prize, $1,000 second place prize, and $750 third place prize. The last month of the 2016-17 competition is July 2017.

About the exhibit, Beverly says, “In our lives, we are bent into a hurried maze of roles and responsibilities and expectation. Art has a way to disconnect from the artificial and connect with the real. Art gives permission to return to the imagination of childhood."

The newly remodeled hotel features art and culture. The Living Stage at Hotel RL invites guests and locals to share their knowledge and diverse perspectives. Authors, artists, musicians, community activists, thought leaders, and local start-ups take the stage to promote conversation and a deeper understanding of the world. Hotel RL is located at  3321 S 72nd St. Omaha, NE 68124 .

Judge's comment: Sometime you just need to give representationalism the ol' heave-ho. This is like if DeKooning was in a good mood and just let go of all that baggage he was dragging around. Deft, airy and a joy to look at.

New Art Installed at
University of Nebraska

July 2015 -- New artwork was installed outside of the Grace Abbott School of Social Work at the University of Nebraska at Omaha on Monday, July 6, 2015.

The artist, Beverly Todd, was on hand to observe her work being installed. "Creating and sharing art is about connections and communication. The very things that the UNO Grace Abbott School of Social Work also embraces. Honored to create these pieces for the University to inspire students and all visitors. The tryptic, to live your life, and the scribble community, to connect with the world," says Todd.

The pieces are titled Live the Life You've Dreamed: Go, Live the Life You've Dreamed: Do,  Live the Life You've Dreamed: Be, tryptic, 48" x 60" each panel, acrylic. "Through art I share what it has taken me a lifetime to understand. Life is art. It moves us, in the deepest and most unconscious way. It connects us. And it communicates to us. It inspires us and, as in this series, to live life to the fullest. Close your eyes and imagine what you want your life to be, then every single day work to make that happen. You and only you have the power to not only dream, but to live. Now get going," Todd says.

About Around the Corner, Down the Street, 48" x 72" , mixed media, Todd says, "This painting kept speaking to me: I'm not done yet, I'm not done yet. I'm more than a landscape... I'm a community... a home... a place where people connect... a town... a playground... a dog's park... a place to love... a place to live... a place to learn. There's more to your life landscape too. Take a look around the corner and discover the connections in your community."

Splasy News

This piece has been selected to be one of the featured live auction items among the amazing artwork. I'm excited to be a contributing artists for the Feb. 21 Kansas City Artist Coalition Auction. Albrecht-Kemper Museum Award

January 2015 -- Fat Hippie and Dirty Martini, was awarded 2nd Place, Mixed Media, in the Albrecht-Kemper Museum of Art (St. Joseph, MO) Membership Show in January 2015. The judges noted the outstanding use of color in the college.

This art is also know as an amazing lunch at Tampa's Hula Bay Club. It was an afternoon of sun and friends and laughter that I've cherishes for several years, and now was the time to re-create it in hand-painted paper collage. Each piece of paper is torn by hand and added to the canvas like individual brush strokes, creating a lush tapestry of colors. So lush I can taste the cold martini.

Open House

November 2014 -- Juicy new abstracts and hands-on creative workshops debuted at "Around the Corner, Down the Street" Nov. 23, 2014, at B.Todd.Arts studio. More than

75 art patrons attended. Photos left.

Art should personally speak to you... Perhaps it says "hello, be happy." Perhaps the message or emotion is deeper. Perhaps it touches your soul. That is when you should buy art and make it a part of your home. Only then...

I don't expect everyone to connect with my art. It's free flowing, juicy, happy, colorful, vibrant, passionate, full of energy and becoming. Ummm... kinda like me.

When you come to my show on Sunday, I expect eyes wide open in awe (sensory overload perhaps)... But I don't expect you to buy. Unless you hear a whisper... "take me home."

- Beverly Todd
